Through His Eyes

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

For years I have struggled with my self-esteem. I can’t remember learning how to write my name or when I learned how to count to ten (not sure if anyone can).  However, I do remember telling myself at a very young age that no one would ever love me and that I was a mistake. Crazy right? As I got older, I started making mistakes.. going through life doing what I wanted to do.. which eventually added to my list of flaws. So now, on top of the self-esteem problem, I just knew that God could never use me for anything. No one could ever love me.. & God could never use me.

If you asked me what I saw when I looked in the mirror. My answer would have been simple; unworthy & not good enough. Trying to get rid of that mentality on my own was impossible.

Reading my word one day, I came across the scripture in Psalms 139: 14″fearfully & wonderfully”.. at that moment, a lightbulb went off.

I realized His vision was completely different from mines. God saw what I couldn’t see.. Max Lucado explained it perfectly: ” God sees us with the eyes of a Father. He sees our defect, errors and blemishes. But He also sees our VALUE.

I began to search the scriptures trying to find any passage about who He says I am and how He sees me. Now don’t get me wrong; I still struggle with seeing myself through His eyes. However, now I am ready for this battle with my thoughts and feelings. All these years, I’ve been showing up to the battlefield without any ammo. I spent so many years telling myself lies about who I am.

Now I can speak life (the WORD) over myself :

1 Peter 2:9 – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. ( I am royalty)

John 1:12 – Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (I am a child of God)

2 Cor. 5:7 –Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone; the new has come. (My past is gone. I have been made new in Christ.)

Romans 8:35-39 – Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Nothing that I did in my past and nothing that I can do in my future can separate me from my Father’s love. I am loved)

John 15:16 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. (God can use me to bring Him glory .)

God doesn’t make mistakes. I was created in His image for a purpose. If you struggle with your vision, like me. Remember that you are worth so much to Him that He sent His ONLY Son to die for our sins. Search the scriptures and start speaking life into your life, and I promise your vision will begin to change!
