Work Your Faith

As an adult, I’ve probably read James chapter 1 vs. 2-4 a lot, but it’s never stood out to me like it did tonight. Since I haven’t spent much time in my word, this was my go-to passage.

I love the way it reads in the AMP version “Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect results and do a thorough work, so the you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith] lacking in nothing. James 1: 2-4.”

As I read over those verses, I immediately thought of a muscle. Whenever you begin to work out a particular muscle group (regardless if you are a beginner or not), you will feel some pain or soreness. But the more you work those muscles, the stronger they become. So my faith and your faith is like a muscle. The more we use it (the tests and trials), the stronger it will become. Now just like when you stop working out for a while, you become weak. The same thing happens with our faith, the less we choose to work our faith, the weaker it will get. Then you have to go back in (repeat some tests and trails) and build those muscles (your faith) back up again.

So when we are going through different seasons in our lives, we have to ALWAYS work our faith. Don’t get defeated; count it all joy. Your faith is being developed.

What is Peace?

-Peace is a state of tranquility or quiet; a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity; harmony in personal relations, especially with God; a state of security or order within a community; freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions.

All of that sounds great! So the question is, how do we have this said Peace, especially through Christ. If you take a look around in today’s society, nothing screams Peace. I don’t know about you, but things have pretty much-been everything but Peaceful even in my personal life. Sometimes it seems like the only certain thing in my life is pain and disappointment. So how do I receive this Peace that the bible speaks about?

By living for Christ and trusting our Father with everything in our life. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT); tells us to Trust in the Lord with all our heart; do not depend on our own understanding. Seek HIS will in all you do, and He WILL show you which path to take. To have Peace, you first must trust that God will grant you just that. You also have to be living for Him. If you look at some of the scriptures regarding Peace, almost all of them speak towards living in Christ.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) tells us not to worry (goes back to trusting God) and pray about everything. Then you will experience God’s Peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His Peace will guard our hearts and minds as we LIVE IN CHRIST JESUS.

Romans 8:6 (NLT) also speaks about being controlled by the Spirit leads to Life and Peace.

God isn’t like us(man). He can’t Lie!! If we are His children like we claim to be and are being led by the Holy Spirit within us… then.. guess what? WE HAVE PEACE.. It is there for the taking. We have to speak it over our life. When things get tough ( and trust me, it will get tough), remember to stay grounded in Christ and always Claim your Peace.

Also, we have to ensure that we live in Him, that our lives line up with His will for us, not our will. Sometimes we take our own Peace away by moving and doing things outside of His plan for our lives. If our life is constantly a mess, then maybe it’s time to do a self-evaluation and check the type of fruit we bear.

Galatians 5: 22-23; But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: Love, Joy, PEACE, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

So if we are rooted in Christ, no matter what goes on around us, we will not be shaken because the Holy Spirit living in us is giving us that Peace that surpasses all understanding. You’ve seen those people before whose world came crashing down, but yet they had this Peace and Joy throughout them in the midst of it all.. I mean, we can take it back to the bible.. Look at Job..

Trust in God, seek Him first, and He will guide you through life, giving you Joy and Peace every step of the way.

Prayer: Dear God, In everything that I do in life, help me always to seek you and your kingdom first. Always trusting you to guide my footsteps and letting your Holy Spirit live in me, granting me Peace and Joy through whatever life may throw my way. Please help me to remain secure in you. Allow your light to shine bright through me so that others may see you through the Peace you are giving me. So much so that they may come to know you as the Father of Peace as I do! In Jesus name, we pray. Amen!
